Eurovision nightGot myself some ice cream and will be making myself compfy on the sofa so I'm ready for the big, glittery, horrible music, camp, pointless politics, drama that is eurovision. It never disappoints me. :la:
Sadly I will be alone for this one. Matt had to do a concert he didn't want to do, so I will be live tweeting (humonlazydiva) my impression of the whole shebang. :D
The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

At a Movie premier at Aurora, Denver, Colorado, A man opened fire at the crowds who appeared. Who has been killed, many do not know, Yet...Some thought it was a prank until people started to fall.

Seriously you only hear about this sorta shit happening over there. The last "massacre" we had in Aus was in 1996 at Point Arthur. We've had strict gun control since then and have had no massacres on this sort of scale since. And yes, crims still have guns, but do they have access to the kind of shit to reliably pull this kind of a stunt off? Hell no.

But of course if I even mention that to an average yank i'll get my head torn off about the second amendment or something or other and labeled a communist. Just sayin i feel safer knowing that there are restrictions in place attempting to prevent this shit from happening rather than relying on a fluke that someone has a weapon when i'm in trouble.

and it,s just too easy in most US states for anyone to get firearms,including handguns. mostly about profit for the makers and sellers. i,m afraid the USA has a ways to go towards being a civilized society as long as these people do this. plenty of sicko,s on FB too,who are into that sort of thing.
